Chi and Somatic Awareness

The School of Chi Energy

The field of Somatic Awareness is both deep and wide: each topic of interest and nuance goes deeper and deeper into research, theorems and [consequentially] more information found in a plethora of books.

Here, we will take a look at Somatic Awareness from a very specific perspective: somatic awareness and chi.

Somatic Awareness Defined:

Merriam-Webster defines “somatic” as follows: “of, relating to, or affecting the body… as distinguished from the viscera”.
The term “viscera” is of great importance in understanding the nature of what is called somatic, as the very meaning and play of this word build into the “awareness” thereof.

Again, going back to Merriam-Webster, we find that “viscera” is equivalent to all of the eternal organs located in the “great cavity of the trunk proper”, with regards to human anatomy.

Furthermore, the term “visceral” speaks directly to: elemental emotions.

In effect, the body is aware; and should be able to communicate its various [nutrition; rest; therapeutic] needs on a very basic, emotional level.

The awareness of this communication, the ability to perceive and understand this process of communicating with one’s own body [with a specific purpose/message] is the overarching goal of Somatic Awareness.

This theme has been propagated throughout time in as many cultures.  In Issai Chozanshi’s treatise of the martial arts, he quotes the Confucian sage’s somatic understanding of the truth of the self: “The scriptures are within yourself; [those that are written down] only point out what you have not been able to see on your own”.

The instruction we provide will help you get greater insight into your own personal truth, both physically and figuratively.

Somatic Awareness and Chi:

Chi, as defined by Eastern mystics, is synonymous with that which Western scientists have called the Quantum Field.  The theories are markedly similar when compared side-by-side.  Each [Eastern Mysticism and Quantum Mechanics] speaks of an energy field made up of tiny particles that comprise everything, and move through everything.

Somatically speaking, Eastern mystics have been investigating the “inner space” of the mind/body relationship whereas their Western counterparts have delved into the “outer space” of formally investigating and documenting that which is often perceived yet not specifically understood [as to why such is the case]; hence the relevance of Issai Chozanshi’s quote in the previous section.

Using scientific jargon, the phenomenon of somatic awareness is achieved thru: “bioentanglement- quantum connections within and among living systems” (Entangled Minds, Dean Radin).

Information transmitted on a quantum level, carried throughout space and time, is not only directly related to the functioning of the human nervous system, but also gives rise to more “esoteric” abilities beyond simply wiggling one’s finger: psi-related abilities and a thorough understanding of the physical and psychological “self” are among them.

Somatic Awareness and Chi Development:

We have found “somatic awareness” to be a natural and appreciated by-product of chi training and chi development.

With increased sensitivity to chi energy, greater sensitivity to the messages from our bodies and our surroundings are achieved; the information transmitted on the quantum level through “bioentanglement” can be easily received and deciphered on an emotional level with little to no internal, conscious “analysis”: the difference between “thinking” and “knowing” will be made apparent.

Chi Energy and Temperature of Light

School of Chi Energy

Article by certified Instructor Sifu Don Brown

As odd as it may seem, the temperature of light is not fixed; in fact, it is possible to freeze light.  The usefulness of this discovery did not go unnoticed in the scientific and manufacturing communities.  As stated in the article “Physicists freeze light, propose optical CPUs”, the ability to lower the temperature of light makes quantum computing that much more feasible as well as practical.

What I find most interesting in this revelation is that it coincides with energy cultivation concepts taught by Sifu Jones for years prior to this technological breakthrough.

The idea of keeping my energy “cool” was an abstract concept that was particularly difficult to grasp.  At the time, I had not realized that chi/electromagnetic energies have physical temperatures; nor did I realize the cause and effect relationship between “hot” chi and the physical manifestations of strained muscles, internal discomforts, and disruptive energies exacerbating interpersonal relationships.  Furthermore, it was beyond my understanding that the human mind is capable of manipulating the temperature of objects, especially electromagnetic phenomena.  With Sifu’s prompting and patient tutelage, I gradually came to know the truth expressed in the recent scientific discoveries via the use of my own mind.  Immediately, the abovementioned negative side effects of “hot” chi subsided.  The idea of lowering the temperature of the bio-electromagnetic energy I cultivate, however, was but the starting point.

Chi, electricity, and light are electromagnetic phenomena that are hot at default settings.  Through trial and error, we have all learned that, on some level, electricity burns.  Light, given off from distant stars and fires, carries heat; too much [sun] light can lead to medical ailments, from a simple sunburn to heat strokes and more.  When cultivating this energy with and for the body, it behooves the practitioner to cool this energy, as the body will be more receptive to it and the generation thereof.

In the article “Virtual Reality Therapy” , [author ] Dr. Hunter Hoffman, who is the director of the Virtual Reality Analgesia Research Center at the University of Washington Human Interface Technology Laboratory (HITLab) in Seattle, makes some very profound discoveries that show the power of the human mind:

·    Functional magnetic resonance imaging shows that virtual reality actually reduces the amount of pain-related activity in the brain.  The same incoming pain signal can be interpreted as more or less painful depending on what the patient is thinking.

·  In addition to influencing the way patients interpret such signals, psychological factors can even influence the amount of pain signals allowed to enter the brain’s cortex.

·   We found a significant positive correlation between the potency of the illusion—how strongly the subjects felt they were immersed in the virtual world—and the alleviation of their pain.

Not only does the scientific data demonstrate Dr. Hoffman’s observation as truth, we instinctively know this from our real world experiences.

In the article, “Virtual-Reality Video Game To Help Burn Patients Play Their Way To Pain Relief”, Dr. Gamelli of the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, Maywood made t his [un] commonsense observation about Hoffman’s work:

“The theory is solid. Think of a toothache. During the day it’s less painful because you have more demands on your attention. However, when night comes and things quiet down, your pain can flair up because you have far less to focus on.”

For many of us engaging in the cultivation of chi energy, the ability to imagine/visualize without the aid of advanced technology falls pathetically short when compared to the sophisticated virtual reality systems in use by Dr. Hoffman and his colleagues.  With continued practice, things improve.  So much so that, it is completely possible to not only change the temperature of the chi.

As noted in other articles, the human brain is amazingly plastic; it morphs to better perform that which we tell it is important.  The same is true here.  Thru daily efforts in visualization techniques within this energy cultivation method, the brain repeatedly receives instructions as to what is important and as such, complies.  The ability to visualize becomes second nature, and thru this ability, not only can the temperature of energy be changed, but a myriad of attributes and instruction given to the energy: how it feels; how it performs; what it does; how it behaves; etcetera.

The ability to control chi to this level of detail is critical for successful upper level techniques, such as remote healing.  So that the practitioner has the ability to reproduce these techniques, on command and on demand with consistent results, this method integrates the concept of cooling the temperature of chi from the very beginning.  The building blocks to upper echelon abilities are encoded in every phase of this method and carefully laid out in the curriculum.

Biophotons are weak emissions of light radiated from the cells of all living things. A photon is a single particle of light. Plants, animals and humans generate up to 100 photons per second, per .15 square inches (1 sq. centimeter) of surface area. The light is too faint to be seen by the naked eye, but biophotons have been detected and verified using photomultiplier tubes.

According to a leading researcher of biophotons, German biophysicist Fritz-Albert Popp, light is constantly being absorbed and remitted by DNA molecules within each cell's nucleus. These biophotons create a dynamic, coherent web of light. A system that could be responsible for chemical reactions within the cells, cellular communication throughout the organism, and the overall regulation of the biological system, including embryonic development into a predetermined form.

The laser-like coherence of the biophoton field is a significant attribute, making it a prime candidate for exchanging information in a highly functional, efficient and cooperative fashion, lending credence to the idea that it may be the intelligence factor behind the biological processes. An aspect of, or cousin to consciousness, though this remains speculative.

Biophoton emissions will vary according to the functional state of the organism. If a disease such as cancer affects certain cells they will radiate a different photonic signature than healthy cells of the same type. In this way biophotons can be a noninvasive tool for assessing the state of health or vitality. Applications can extend far into other areas like testing food and water quality, checking for chemical or electromagnetic contamination, or agricultural testing for products that improve crop resistance to disease. Biophysicists in many

European and Asian countries are currently engaged in such research. Proponents of alternative medicine see a possible connection between biophotons and natural healing techniques. For example acupuncture is based on manipulating or exciting "ch'i" energy — the vital life force that, according to ancient Chinese belief, regulates body function and is responsible for well-being. It is suggested that the meridians or energy points used by acupuncturists may tap into node lines within the biophoton field. It is further hypothesized that all living things might be connected together through dynamic biophoton fields.

A Russian scientist discovered bipohotons in 1923, dubbing them mitogenetic rays. Though Professor Alexander Gurvich's discovery sparked wide research, it wasn't until 1974 that Popp proved their existence, revealed their origin in DNA, and subsequently their coherence. Popp's biophoton theory provides an intriguing and promising path for more international research, which could lead to major developments in our understanding of life, the mechanisms of healing and health, and our interconnectedness with the world around us.

Though skeptics relegate much of this to pseudoscience, research may eventually shed light on biophotons for us all.
